How FFL Transfers Work

How FFL Transfers Work

Buying a firearm online from a licensed dealer is straightforward when you know the steps. Parish Tactical is a licensed Type 01 FFL in Youngsville, Louisiana. We ship firearms to your local FFL dealer. You complete the federal paperwork and background check there before the firearm is released to you.

This guide is for education and checkout clarity. Always follow federal, state, and local law where you live.

The short version

  1. You order the firearm on our site.
  2. You choose a licensed FFL near you that accepts transfers.
  3. You send us that dealer’s FFL information.
  4. We ship the firearm to your dealer (free shipping on all firearms).
  5. You go to the dealer, complete ATF Form 4473, and pass a NICS (or state) background check.
  6. After approval — and any state waiting period — you take possession.

Step-by-step

1. Place your order

Add the firearm to your cart and check out like any other product. Firearm sales are conditional on a lawful transfer at a licensed dealer. See our Terms & Conditions.

2. Choose a receiving FFL

Pick a dealer close enough that you can visit in person. Before you order (or immediately after):

  • Confirm they accept transfers from other FFLs.
  • Ask their transfer fee and hours.
  • Ask whether they need the license emailed, faxed, or uploaded a certain way.

Transfer fees are paid to your dealer, not included in the Parish Tactical product price.

3. Send us the FFL details

Provide:

  • Dealer business name
  • Street address
  • Phone number
  • A copy of their FFL license (or have them send it directly to us)

We cannot ship a firearm to a home address in place of an FFL when federal law requires a dealer transfer.

4. We verify and ship

Once payment is clear and FFL information is in good order, we process and ship to your dealer. Shipping is free on all firearms. Processing may take longer than soft-goods orders because of FFL verification. Tracking is emailed when the package ships.

5. Dealer receives the firearm

Your receiving FFL will log the firearm into their inventory. They typically contact you when it is ready — you can also call them with your tracking number.

6. Complete Form 4473 and the background check

At the dealer, you (the actual buyer) complete ATF Form 4473 and undergo a NICS background check or the state equivalent. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID and any other documents your state or dealer requires.

Important: Someone else cannot pick up the firearm for you. That can be treated as a straw purchase, which is a serious federal crime.

7. Take possession

After approval — and after any applicable state waiting period — the dealer releases the firearm to you. Inspect it carefully before you accept the transfer. If something looks wrong (damage, wrong model), stop and contact us at (337) 524-3158 or sales@parishtactical.com before completing the transfer. Once the firearm is transferred to you, sales are final under our Return Policy.

What you provide (checklist)

  • Order number
  • Receiving FFL name, address, phone
  • Copy of the dealer’s FFL (or dealer sends it to us)
  • Confirmation the dealer accepts transfers and what they charge
  • Valid ID for the in-person transfer
  • Willingness to complete Form 4473 honestly and in person

Timeline (typical)

Stage What to expect
Order + FFL info received We begin verification
Processing Often several business days for firearms (varies)
Carrier transit Depends on method and distance
At the dealer Their receiving + your appointment
Background check Instant, delayed, or denied per NICS/state process

We do not control dealer schedules, NICS delays, or state waiting periods.

Louisiana context (light)

Parish Tactical is based in Youngsville, Louisiana, and ships nationwide to lawful destinations. Louisiana customers still use a receiving FFL when buying firearms that must transfer through a dealer — including many online purchases. State rules (for example, constitutional carry for possession/carry) are separate from the federal transfer process for acquiring a firearm from an out-of-area or online FFL. If you have Louisiana-specific questions, ask your receiving dealer or a qualified attorney — we can help with order and shipping logistics.

Fees you should expect

Fee Who charges it
Firearm price + tax (as applicable) Parish Tactical (at checkout)
Shipping Free on all firearms
FFL transfer fee Your receiving dealer
NICS/state check fees (if any) Your dealer / state process
NFA tax stamp (NFA items only) ATF / NFA process — not a standard Title I transfer

If the background check is denied or delayed

If the transfer cannot be completed (denial, unresolved delay, or other lawful reason the dealer cannot release the firearm), contact us. The transaction is handled under our Return Policy and Terms — including possible restocking and non-refundable outbound shipping as stated there.

Soft goods vs firearms

Plate carriers, hearing protection, packs, apparel, and most accessories are not FFL transfers — they ship to your address under our Shipping Policy. Only regulated firearms (and other items the law requires) use this FFL process.

FAQ anchors (for on-page FAQ + schema)

Use these as # anchors or Rank Math FAQ blocks:

Does every online gun purchase need an FFL?

Almost all firearm purchases from an online FFL must ship to a licensed dealer for transfer. You complete Form 4473 and a background check there before taking possession.

Can Parish Tactical ship a firearm to my house?

No — when federal law requires a dealer transfer, we ship to your chosen licensed FFL, not to your residence.

Who pays the transfer fee?

You pay your receiving dealer’s transfer fee. It is not included in our product price.

How fast will you ship my firearm?

After we have valid FFL information, we process as quickly as we can. Firearm orders often take longer than soft goods because of verification. Shipping itself is free on all firearms.

What if I live in Louisiana?

You still complete a lawful FFL transfer when buying firearms that must go through a dealer. We’re a Youngsville, LA Type 01 FFL and can help with shipping logistics; your receiving dealer handles the in-person transfer.

Can someone else pick up my firearm?

No. The actual buyer must complete the Form 4473 and transfer in person.
